BLACK # BLANCO
BLACK is the absorption of all colours

Black versus white, darkness versus brightness.

Black was one of the first colours used in the Neolithic cave paintings (see my exhibition CHARCOAL@BLANCO)

I have a great affinity with BLACK since my earliest discoveries of the famous B&W movies of Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosawa and the photo’s of Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.

The drawings of Goya, Rembrandt and the Japanese ink masters were a source of inspiration during my graphic arts studies.

Graphite, charcoal, ink, black varnish and oils are the (dis)appearing materials in the greater part of my artistic portfolio.

BLACK@BLANCO is the alteration and at the same time the connection between the BLANCO canvas and the BLACK tools.

Having the opportunity exposing @BLANCO is a welcoming merge with my BLACK artworks.

The presentation is an inventory with experiments, discoveries, (de)constructions of drawings, paintings, mock-ups, assemblages and paraphernalia.

Due to my professional career in advertising and communication, CONCEPTING is part of the most of my artistic themes and series, so does BLACK@BLANCO. In order that the concept is hidden, as not to see directly in the artwork(s) itself but becoming visible when exhibited.

It seems that BLACK, the total darkness doesn’t exist, it’s up to you.

BLACK, NOIR, NERO, SCHWARZ, ZWART, Lamp Black, Mars Black, Ivory Black, Vanta Black

“Graviky Labs captures air pollution and turns it into Black Ink.

An Indian startup company has developed a method for transforming carbon emissions from vehicles and chimneys into ink, and is now selling it in the form of pens.”(Dezeen Daily 08/03/2017)
